The Quality of Your Brand is Your Quality
Pharrell Williams sues Reebok for bad quality products, branded with his name.
He demands over $4mil from the sportswear manufacturer because they didn’t provide the quality for the product which was negotiated for upfront. Reebok manufacturered a so-called “Billionaire Boys Club” clothing line and “Ice Cream footwear.” Design and quality seem to be the main reasons for the lawsuit.
Well, that’s the flipside of having your (brand)name on products. Your name (especially as an artist) is the most expensive capital you have. With products associated so closely to your name, this becomes very picky. You can earn a living just with a strong branded name, but run everything down by associating it with the wrong thing. You can see something similar at the moment with Martha Stewart. Even being in jail, she tries to keep up her image. She is doing a very good, but difficult job to keep her image up to her followers. I’m excited to see how it works out when she is back in freedom.
